Thomas: “I am a watercolour artist from Venice Beach – Los Angeles, California USA.”
What kind of materials do you use?
Thomas: “I work primarily in transparent watercolor. And I draw in graphite pencil.”
What kind of subjects do you paint?
Thomas W Schaller: “Primarily subjects having to do with the nature of cities – The relationship of humans and their built environments.”
Did you study art?
Thomas W Schaller: “I degreed in architecture and studied fine art – But largely self-taught in watercolor.”
Hobby or career?
Thomas: “I am a full-time professional artist.”
What inspires you to paint?
Thomas: “I am rarely inspired to paint by paintings. Books, music, friends, strangers are the root of most of my works.”
Have you exhibited your art work?
Thomas: “Yes, I have exhibited all over the world in the past 10 years in over 30 countries. Approximately 300 exhibitions and many more online.
What do you specialise in?
Thomas: “Imaginary Urban Landscapes.”
Which artists inspire you?
Thomas: “The poet Wallace Stevens, the musicians Sigur Ros and Nick Cave, the painters Turner and Mark Rothko.”
Thomas: “Art is not just something we do. It is a way we choose to see the worlds around us and within us all.
