Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Subhashree: “I am an artist originally from Selam in India. No I live and work in Chennai, India.”
When did you start painting?
Subhashree: “I started learning drawing at the age of 5 and learnt to use paints when I was around 13 yrs old.”
What materials do you use?
Subhashree: “Camel Oil paints, flat, liner and filbert oil brushes, canvas.”
What inspires you to paint?
Subhashree: “My paintings usually derive their inspiration from temples, heritage sites and everyday Indian scenarios. Most of them are inspired from my travel to these places. These places prompt me to relive those moments on the canvas in my own way.”
Did you study art or are you self-taught?
Subhashree: “I am a self taught artist.”
Is art a hobby or a career?
Subhashree: “It’s a career for me. I am an independent freelance artist. I work on commissioned pieces and storybook illustrations as well. I also take independent workshops on oils whenever I can.”
Subhashree: “I have also learnt Carnatic music.”
Which artists inspire you?
Subhashree: “Bijay Biswaal and Iruvan Karunakaran.”
