
Ken Salaz
Can you tell us something about yourself?
Ken: “I was born in California and started painting when I was eight years old. I have a career in Art and I am also a professional Magician and Mentalist. I now live in Hudson Valley New York.”
What kind of materials do you use?
Ken: “I use oil paints on Linen. I use mostly synthetic brushes – Filberts and rounds. I often use Liquin medium and Oleo pesto for different effects and textures.
What subjects do you paint?
“I love the landscape because of its infinite variety of colors, light and atmospheres. I also like to paint the figure because it represents and expresses so much of our common humanity.”
Where did you learn how to paint?
Ken: “I learned my style of painting primarily from Jacob Collins and his Atelier.”
Is painting a hobby or a career for you?
Ken: “I have a career in Art. I am also a professional Magician and Mentalist as well and have performed for Bruce Springsteen, Howard Stern and more. I performed live on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”
Where have you exhibited?
Ken: “Most recently, I had a solo exhibition. in 2019 at Rehs Contemporary Gallery in NYC. It featured about 20 of my newest paintings. It coincided with the release of my new instructional landscape painting book entitled “Landscapes in Oils” and my DVD “Majestic Landscapes. The exhibit was meant to feature many of the paintings found in the book and DVD.”

Can you tell us something about the DVD that you have published recently?
Ken: ” I just released my first instructional DVD for painting landscapes this year. It’s titled “Majestic Landscapes” with Streamline publishing.”
I am also honored to be one of the select Featured Artists at this year’s Plein Air Convention in Santa Fe New Mexico, August 11 – 15th. I will be doing a stage demonstration of my techniques.”

Ken: “Yes, Art Renewal Center Honorable Mention in Landscape category 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019
Grand Prize – Cranford NJ Plein Air Competition, Juror: Peter Trippi of “Fine Art Connoisseur” Magazine.
I also have the distinct honor of being recognized as a “Living Master” by the Art Renewal Center – one of a handful of landscape artists to achieve that distinction.

Ken:”I specialize in Poetic Realism, which captures the landscape in its natural beauty and is infused with poetic interpretation of light and atmosphere.”
