Social Media
Do the research on social media platforms and choose the ones that suit you best. Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter to name a few.
Website
Have an organised and easy to navigate website showing your recent artwork in a colourful and unique portfolio.
In a Blog section you can post news on up-coming exhibitions, shows, artwork that you are currently working on and such items.
Add a Contact page with your e-mail address, other contact information and share where you are on social media.
List your achievements, have you won art prizes or awards, have you exhibited in a well known gallery or have you been involved with a fundraising event.
Make sure that you have an up to date Artist Statement on your page, so that potential customers can get to know you, where you come from and what your artwork stands for. Download our workbook on ‘How to write an Artist Statement’ here.
How to build up credibility
It’s important to establish credibility, the more your name get’s known and spread about, the more people get to know you and become familiar with your artwork.
Connect your artwork and your story to a current global or local event so that you can use this topic to connect with and talk about it in a positive way. Create and generate an interesting story that you can ‘sell’ to papers, magazines, podcasts or tv programs to name but a few suggestions.
For example, if you are a landscape painter, you can connect your artwork to the current social problem of climate change. Are you painting a scene that has recently been hit by bush fires? By donating a percentage of your sales to the good cause you create positive publicity.
Another example could be the following. If you are an animal painter, your topic could be about animal extinction. Raise awareness about a particular species and speak about it to an animal preservation organisation.
