Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Gourav Dutta:” I am a water colour artist from West Bengal, India. I tell hidden stories through my paintings to those who have ears to hear it.”
When did you start painting?
Gourav Dutta: “From 3 years of age.”
What inspires you to paint?
Gourav Dutta: “Nature, human emotions and beautiful things.”
Describe your artwork in 5-10 words
Gourav Dutta: “I love realism, so I paint what I see.”
What materials, techniques and tools have you used to create your artwork?
I mainly use watercolour paints but I am not limited to that medium so I try all the mediums, graphaite, charcoal, oils, acrylics and even sculpting.”
What subjects do you like to paint and why?
Gourav Dutta: “Everything that is beautiful to me. Architectural designs, human faces filled with emotions and things from my day to day life. I try to represent as close to the natural look as possible.”
Did you go to an art college or are you self taught?
Gourav Dutta: “I am self taught.”
Do you have a career in art or is it a hobby?
Gourav Dutta:” It is currently my part-time work, but I dream of becoming an international artist one day.”
If you had a choice of just four colours, what would they be?
Gourav Dutta: “French ultramarine, Phthalo Blue, Hansa Yellow, pyrol Scarlet.”
Can you give us a fun fact about yourself?
Gourav Dutta: “I am a student yet I register myself as a professional artist everytime in a contest.”
Have you ever had your work published in a magazine or featured on a website?
Gourav Dutta: “Yes, in the International Watercolour Society magazine.”
Which artist inspirers you?
Gourav Dutta: “Rance Jones, Matthew Bird, Thierry Duval there are many more.”
Is there anything else you want to tell us?
Gourav Dutta: “Unlike many hyperrealistic watercolour artists, most of the time I do not use the grid method for drawing the underlying sketch for my paintings, rather draw them free hand.”
