Journaling brings the benefits of putting your thoughts on paper and clearing your mind. With the aid of water colour, pens of different sorts whether they be coloured or black, silver or gold, gel or the glitter sort, glue for sticking things down or just plain pencils, much can be achieved. It gives you some ‘me time’ in this stressy life we lead. Before long, it will lead to more self-esteem, self-awareness and control of the situation around you.

Journals can be used for many different purposes. They can be used by artists to record idea’s for future work or they can be used just for fun and relaxation.There are many sorts of Journals available, from large to small, luxurious to simple and with thick paper to thin. Below you can see some of the examples we have picked out for you.

Anything goes with journaling. If you buy the right weight of paper you can use watercolour, non-water-resistant ink, or water-soluble pencils to great advantage. Sticking things with glue in journals is also a favourite pastime. This can be in the form of postage stamps, favourite recipes, the holiday you have just been on, or words to the song you like the most. Mixed media is often used to illustrate journals, here anything goes! There are on the market, stencils and coloured and patterned tape that are often used to great advantage.

Daily activities, poems, theatre or museum tickets, your favourite recipe or a piece of lucky heather can be stuck into your journal and either left as they are or embellished. Take a piece of a picture torn out of a magazine stick it in your journal and try and finish it off. Try drawing some of the ingredients of your favourite recipe. The list and possibilities are endless!

Try making a shared journal with your best friend or your children, it’s always fun and you will be surprised at the results and inspiration that you get from it!
