Art competitions in the year 2021 are a little different to previous years because of the global Covid19 pandemic. Many companies and institutions are having art competitions online now. This has some advantages. There are no travel expenses, no hotel or food bills and no packing up and transporting of paintings. Wherever you are in the world, you can take part. Here are some of the many competitions you can take part in. If you feel that there are some interesting and worthwhile art competitions that are not on our list, please drop us a line.

ART COMPETITION #1
Arte Laguna Prize 2021

Arte Laguna Prize, the world’s most influential competition for emerging artists and designers, showcases and promotes creative talents. With fourteen years of history the Arte Laguna Prize gives the opportunity to join the huge network of collaborations worldwide. The 120 finalist artists selected by the international jury will participate in the major collective exhibition which will take place in Venice, at the Arsenale Nord, from March 13th to April 5th 2021.

Medium
Oil paint, tempera, acrylic, ink, vinyl, watercolor, graphite, pencil, collage, aquatint, etching and prints of different kind on any support, such as canvas, paper, wood, plastics, iron, etc. The maximum size allowed is 175 cm per side.

Deadline
Last date to enter 27-11-2020
Exhibition of the finalist artists selected by the international jury, from 13th March to 5th April 2021.

ART COMPETITION #2
The Pastel Society 122nd Annual Exhibition 2021

Artists are invited to submit work for exhibition alongside members of The Pastel Society at their 122nd Annual Exhibition 2021. The Pastel Society seeks the best in contemporary dry media, combining traditional skills with creative originality for their annual exhibition. The exhibition offers several prizes and awards, open to all participating artists. It presents the opportunity to exhibit at a prestigious gallery in the heart of London alongside well-established artists and have your work seen by thousands of visitors, including buyers and collectors. To make the process of submitting and selecting work simpler and safer, the Society will select works for exhibition from online only this year. Any artist over 18 can enter.

Portrait Competition – Royal Society of Portrait Painters 

All artists over the world are invited to submit their portrait paintings for the annual exhibition of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in the prestigious Mall Galleries in Central London. There are many reasons to submit your work. Being selected for this prestigious organisation is a mark of distinction. Your portrait painting will be selected by leading portrait painters. This year Royal Society of Portrait Painters sought submissions of new and traditional artistic models and perspectives in portraiture. Artists over 18, from all over the world may submit work for the exhibition alongside members of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters at their Annual Exhibition.

Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2022

Artists are invited to submit portraits in any media for consideration in the sixth triennial Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition. As with past editions, the competition seeks to broaden the definition of portraiture and highlight the genre’s relevance in society and contemporary art. Artworks may originate from direct encounters between the artist and the sitter or draw upon existing imagery or archival research in response to history. Artists are encouraged to think about portraiture’s potential to engage with the social and political landscape of our time. All artists entering must be of USA citizenship.

ART COMPETITION #14
Prix de Rome 2021

The new competition for the Prix de Rome, the incentive award for talented artists under the age of 40, begins on 5 January, 2021. Artists who meet the conditions can then respond to an open call to apply. An international jury will select a shortlist from these applications, and ultimately a winner, whose award will include a cash amount of 40,000 Euros.

The Prix de Rome for the visual arts is open to practitioners of all disciplines of the visual arts as defined by the Mondriaan Fund.

EuropeArtFair 2021

The second edition of the EuropArtFair is unique in its kind: visitors will be shown a cross-section of art by carefully selected contemporary artists from all over Europe and even beyond. More importantly, the meet-and-greet with the artists is part of the deal!  The participating artists will be provided with an opportunity to show their work directly to the public. The organisation, Fusion Art, invites submissions for the 5th Annual Skies art competition for an online exhibition during the month of August 2021. For this competition, both 2D and 3D artists, worldwide, are invited to submit their best art and photography depicting the sky. The sky is everything that lies above the surface of the Earth, including the atmosphere and outer space. 121st Anniversary International Exhibition of works on paper

Philidelphia watercolour society is hosting the 121st Anniversary of the International exhibition of works on paper. For details of this competition take a look below and on the website of the organisation. Art works will be judges by Ray Balkwill SWAc and Mary Whyte. Participating artists must be 18 years old or older.

Medium
In addition to watercolor; soft pastels, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, pen & ink, gouache, acrylic and hand-pulled prints are also accepted. All work must be original and on or of paper. Clay prints on Reemay using water soluble mediums are acceptable. Collage elements must be of paper and cannot be mounted on canvas. Any image or color on collage papers must be of water media and the work of the artist – no cutouts from digital work will be accepted.

Luxembourg Art Prize

The Luxembourg Art Prize aims to reveal and promote talented artists who have yet to establish a profile on the contemporary international scene. Its function is to discover artists and it is open to any artist, amateur or professional, with no limits on age, nationality or place of residence. The Prize is aimed at artists working in one or more of the following media: drawing, printing, installation, painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, decorative art (textiles and material, glass, wood, metal, ceramics, mosaic, paper or other techniques).

The organization also issues official certificates to acknowledge the artistic achievements of all the participants, even if they are not selected as finalists. This certificate is issued in 9 different languages, providing the artists with international prestige and recognition.

Royal Society of British Artists at their Annual Exhibition 2021

Artists are invited to submit work for this competition and exhibition alongside members of the Royal Society of British Artists at their Annual Exhibition 2021. As well as skill and draughtsmanship, they will be looking for originality and creativity. The exhibition presents the opportunity to exhibit your work at a prestigious London gallery alongside well-established artists and have your work seen by thousands of visitors, including buyers and collectors. To make the process of submitting and selecting work simpler and safer, the Society will select works for exhibition from online only this year. Selectors will make an assessment of each work based on the digital images supplied, following which selected artists will be asked to deliver their accepted work to Mall Galleries for exhibition. Any artist over 18 years old may submit art work.

The 2021 Adelaide Perry Prize for drawing is open. The Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing is a $25,000 acquisitive art award among the most significant of its kind in the Australia. Inaugurated in 2006, the Prize is generously supported by the Parents and Friends’ Association of PLC Sydney. Named in honour of respected painter, printmaker and draughtswoman, Miss Adelaide Elizabeth Perry  (1891-1973) who taught Visual Arts at PLC Sydney from 1930 to 1962, the Prize attracts submissions from around the country Australia.
