Art Competitions 2021

Art competitions in the year 2021 are a little different to previous years because of the global Covid19 pandemic. Many companies and institutions are having art competitions online now. This has some advantages. There are no travel expenses, no hotel or food bills and no packing up and transporting of paintings. Wherever you are in the world, you can take part. Here are some of the many competitions you can take part in. If you feel that there are some interesting and worthwhile art competitions that are not on our list, please drop us a line.

ART COMPETITION #1
Arte Laguna Prize 2021

Arte Laguna Prize, the world’s most influential competition for emerging artists and designers, showcases and promotes creative talents. With fourteen years of history the Arte Laguna Prize gives the opportunity to join the huge network of collaborations worldwide. The 120 finalist artists selected by the international jury will participate in the major collective exhibition which will take place in Venice, at the Arsenale Nord, from March 13th to April 5th 2021.

Medium
Oil paint, tempera, acrylic, ink, vinyl, watercolor, graphite, pencil, collage, aquatint, etching and prints of different kind on any support, such as canvas, paper, wood, plastics, iron, etc. The maximum size allowed is 175 cm per side.

Deadline
Last date to enter 27-11-2020
Exhibition of the finalist artists selected by the international jury, from 13th March to 5th April 2021.

ART COMPETITION #2
The Pastel Society 122nd Annual Exhibition 2021

Artists are invited to submit work for exhibition alongside members of The Pastel Society at their 122nd Annual Exhibition 2021. The Pastel Society seeks the best in contemporary dry media, combining traditional skills with creative originality for their annual exhibition. The exhibition offers several prizes and awards, open to all participating artists. It presents the opportunity to exhibit at a prestigious gallery in the heart of London alongside well-established artists and have your work seen by thousands of visitors, including buyers and collectors. To make the process of submitting and selecting work simpler and safer, the Society will select works for exhibition from online only this year. Any artist over 18 can enter.

Medium Pastels, oil pastels, charcoal, pencil, conte, sanguine, or any dry media.

Visual Art Open

The VAO art competition is currently running in its fifth consecutive year and is open to both amateur and professional artists. The primary goal of the awards is to reveal and establish artists’ profiles in the contemporary art world.

Portrait Competition – Royal Society of Portrait Painters 

All artists over the world are invited to submit their portrait paintings for the annual exhibition of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in the prestigious Mall Galleries in Central London. There are many reasons to submit your work. Being selected for this prestigious organisation is a mark of distinction. Your portrait painting will be selected by leading portrait painters. This year Royal Society of Portrait Painters sought submissions of new and traditional artistic models and perspectives in portraiture. Artists over 18, from all over the world may submit work for the exhibition alongside members of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters at their Annual Exhibition.

ART COMPETITION #7
Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2022

Artists are invited to submit portraits in any media for consideration in the sixth triennial Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition. As with past editions, the competition seeks to broaden the definition of portraiture and highlight the genre’s relevance in society and contemporary art. Artworks may originate from direct encounters between the artist and the sitter or draw upon existing imagery or archival research in response to history. Artists are encouraged to think about portraiture’s potential to engage with the social and political landscape of our time. All artists entering must be of USA citizenship.

The competition welcomes all media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, textiles, video, performance, and digital or time-based art.

All entries must be submitted electronically through the online submission site below, which opens October 5, 2020 at 9am EASTERN TIME (Washington, DC) and closes January 29, 2021, at 12 am midnight MOUNTAIN TIME (Denver, CO).

ART in B&W 2021

The “Art in B & W” 2nd annual juried exhibition is coming to the 3SA Gallery, Fort Collins in Colorado in the USA. From Black and white to sixty shades of gray… this exhibit looks at all types of black and white artwork and photography and challenges the artist to convey their message in a world without colour. From subtle shades of grays to broad and bold strokes of black ink or paint, we are seeking all types of work from conceptual to realistic.

Art Competition PERSISTENCE III 

Persistence is an annual exhibition that features work from female artists from across the United States of America to celebrate Women’s History. This exhibition is open to functional, non-functional, 2D, 3D, fine art, and fine craft in all mediums. In honor of Women’s History, this exhibition is only open to female artists, and is held at the d’Art Center in Norfolk, Virginia. This exhibition is open to all female artists living in the United States, and receives over 600 submissions from over 200 female artists annually!

Lifting the Sky: Elevating the Works of American Women Artists

American Women Artists is thrilled to announce our 2021 National Online Juried Show, Lifting the Sky: Elevating the Works of American Women Artists. As the uncertainty of COVID continues, AWA has decided to host an all-virtual exhibition year. This online exhibit will take the place of our  museum show. You need to be a member to be able to participate.

Lifting the Sky will feature 150 representational and abstract works, including paintings, drawings, and sculptures.

Wildlife Artist of the Year 2021

This competition raises money for global wildlife and is organized by the David Shepard Foundation. The competition is open to both professional and amateur artists aged 17 or over.

ART COMPETITION #13
Prix de Rome 2021

The new competition for the Prix de Rome, the incentive award for talented artists under the age of 40, begins on 5 January, 2021. Artists who meet the conditions can then respond to an open call to apply. An international jury will select a shortlist from these applications, and ultimately a winner, whose award will include a cash amount of 40,000 Euros.

The Prix de Rome for the visual arts is open to practitioners of all disciplines of the visual arts as defined by the Mondriaan Fund.

Art show International 2021

Art Show International is aware of artists’ needs and preferences during these unprecedented times. We strive to distribute prize money equitably in order to help out more artists in our community. Winners receive exceptional recognition in their fields. All cash prize awards are unrestricted and given with no strings attached. Artists may submit all types of art styles including both 2D and 3D works, digital, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, fiber, graphic, mixed media, as well as experimental and installation works. Winners get widespread worldwide recognition. ​The current themes are landscape, flowers, animals or, abstract.

Be Still Prizes

Be Still Media is a nonprofit organization that incentivizes content for creatives and culture, with several $10,000 competitions throughout the calendar year. Our mission is to champion creators of media and arts during a time the world is at once still in the lockdown of the coronavirus.

As long as you can upload it, we accept it! We accept ALL kinds of media and arts that have not been monetized on other platforms, including photography, drawings/paintings, cartoons, music/songs, illustrations, poetry/prose, essays, videos/film, animation, journal entries, or anything other medium you find creative!

ART COMPETITION #17
EuropeArtFair 2021

The second edition of the EuropArtFair is unique in its kind: visitors will be shown a cross-section of art by carefully selected contemporary artists from all over Europe and even beyond. More importantly, the meet-and-greet with the artists is part of the deal!  The participating artists will be provided with an opportunity to show their work directly to the public. Our task is limited: we believe in creating opportunities for the artist to receive feedback on their work through the organisation of this art fair. Participants in the EuropArtFair 2021 have a chance to win the EuropArtAward 2021. The prize is awarded by a professional jury of gallery owners and art collectors. Participation in the EuropArtFair 2021 is exclusively for professional artists from Europe. To be eligible for participation you must have completed a recognized professional eduction and have been working as an artist for al least three years. Your application will be assessed by the Balloting Committee.

In 2008, Ruth Borchard Collection established a national Self-Portrait Prize. This competition is open to all artists. The winner will be awarded the £10,000. There are no restrictions of size. Works must be a self-portrait of the artist.

The Sunny Art Prize is an international art prize hosted by the Sunny Art Centre, London in the United Kingdom. This fine art competition is a global platform offering opportunities to artists worldwide to showcase their artworks internationally. Adelaide Perry Prize for drawing

The 2021 Adelaide Perry Prize for drawing is open. The Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing is a $25,000 acquisitive art award among the most significant of its kind in the Australia. Inaugurated in 2006, the Prize is generously supported by the Parents and Friends’ Association of PLC Sydney. Named in honour of respected painter, printmaker and draughtswoman, Miss Adelaide Elizabeth Perry  (1891-1973) who taught Visual Arts at PLC Sydney from 1930 to 1962, the Prize attracts submissions from around the country Australia.
